Giddy as a Schoolgirl

January 31, 2007 · 1 Comment

Time for me to wear my age, along with my thing for Sting, on my sleeve.

Yes, Dave knows about it. And, yes, I know it’s not hip (see how old I am?) to admit you think Sting’s dishy (see? I have a secret stash of Botox just waiting to be used).

But is the news that  The Police are performing at the Grammys cool or what?

Never Stops

We recently added a few new digital clips of Tau to our You Tube channel. I know they are not the greatest quality — our digital camera has the annoying habit of trying to refocus whenever there is movement in the middle of the screen. But for those of you far away with fast Internet access, they really do give you a sense of Tau’s character (especially this one). Big cousin Kai in Victoria loves watching Baby Tau on the computer.

So how can his feet be so big already?

By the way, we’re mastering toes, socks and shoes:
Comes out “zose,” ”zoks,” and ”dgzooze.”

We recently bought him a pair of these. They are ever so cute and retro.

Conversations with a Toddler

Only Letter in the Alphabet

Tau got a set of Leap Frog Fridge Phonics for Christmas. The base clamps magnetically to the fridge and when you plug in a letter, it sounds it out and sings a little song. “A says Ay, and A says Uh, every letter makes a sound, A says Uh!”

The boy stands at the fridge and plays with this for what seems like hours. Our Tupperware drawer is all the neater for it. When you press the little red music note, Leap Frog sings the alphabet song. Loudly.

“A B C D …”

“Eye!” shouts Sonny. “EYE!”

“E F G …”

“Eye!”

Apparently, there is no other letter.

Even though it’s cold, I came downstairs this morning and the sun was streaming in the window and the house was all nice and tidy. Ah!

Added a photo of our dead banana tree to my last windge.

No Lions Were Harmed in the Writing of This Post

January 16, 2007 · 1 Comment

Last night a couple of our lion friends took a bath. Auckland Zoo Lion, a favorite these past months. Supercool Vegas Lion (we removed the Harley Davidson vest and wiped that down by hand). And close relatives Big Brown Doggie and Little Tan Puppy got a bath too.

The Banana Tree is Withering Folks

OK. Now I’m allowed to windge. Unlike a a few weeks ago, when you were all just indulging me.

Our garden looks like, well, like our indoor plants would if Dave didn’t take care of them.

Oom Sam Wants You!

Seventy percent of Americans disagree with George Bush’s plan to send  21,500 more troops to Iraq. Troops the US Army doesn’t really have.

Utne Magazine recently ran an article called Where Will the Soldiers Come From? that discusses just a few of the ways Uncle Sam hopes to boost his forces:

Baby

Everyone, meet Baby. Baby, everyone.

For Tau’s birthday, Dave’s sister Trish and her family sent this cute little guy. He originally sported a bell on the end of his cap and a long spring stitched to the back of his head. I thought it would be nice to hang him above the crib — the spring was extra springy and Tau loved watching the little man bounce whoa! WHOA! whoa! towards him. But Mister Kapister had other ideas.

Genetics at Work

It always amuses me when I hear parents say, “I have no idea where Bobby or Tammy gets his or her stubborness/curiosity/temper/peacefulness/competitiveness etc. from!”  It amuses me because they fail to see the same traits within themselves and they fail to realize that 50 percent of the child’s genes were inherited from them.  It seems unlikely that a dormant trait suddenly shows up in your child after three generations.

So, all this to say that Sue and I are beginning to laugh and sometimes cringe at the traits we see starting to manifest within our son.  Here are a couple:
